As someone who grew up on the West Coast and endured countless Arizona summers with temperatures exceeding 100°F, I can confidently say that my body is well-adjusted to the heat. However, when it comes to colder climates, I am far less prepared. The moment the temperature drops below 70 degrees, you can find me bundled up in multiple layers. And if it dips below 50 degrees, I am rendered completely useless – taking refuge indoors and swearing off the outside world until summer (though I’ll likely still be complaining then, too!).
That is why it is imperative for me to have a warm, high-quality jacket or coat to layer over my winter sweaters and survive the chilliest season of the year. And after discovering the snug, lightweight design of the FP Movement Pippa Packable Pullover Puffer Jacket ($198), I knew I had found my new favorite winter essential. This packable style has become my constant companion this fall, accompanying me on road trips and camping adventures in the mountains. It is water-resistant, made of wrinkle-free material, and effortlessly stylish. Keep reading to see why this Free People packable puffer is a must-have for anyone who, like me, is constantly cold.
What I Love About This FP Movement Puffer Jacket
This jacket is incredibly comfortable – it feels like I am walking around wrapped in a down comforter 24/7. And really, what more could you want during the cozy fall months? It provides ample warmth – I have worn it in the snow, in the mountains, and even in a mild rainstorm, and it has kept me comfortable in every environment. Despite being incredibly durable and warm, it is also surprisingly lightweight. I often forget I am wearing it at all, which is impressive considering how bulky and heavy most winter coats are.
I also appreciate that this packable jacket is both stylish and cozy. The oversize look is my preferred style, and this boxy pullover achieves just that. Whether I am wearing it on a fall road trip, squeezing it into my suitcase while traveling, or quickly throwing it on for a morning walk, it is versatile enough to be worn everywhere. And with a wide range of available colors, it can be a staple winter piece in anyone’s wardrobe, regardless of personal style.
Things to Consider
While this pullover style is arguably the best down puffer jacket I have ever owned, it is not exempt from the common issue plaguing most jackets of its kind. The biggest complaint with down jackets is that the feathers often poke through the material and come out of the jacket. After only a few wears, I have noticed little white feathers pilling on the front of the coat, my jeans, and even my seatbelt when I wear it in the car. It can be frustrating to see, especially given the jacket’s higher price point. However, it is a typical issue with down jackets. I have owned similar styles from Columbia and Patagonia, both of which also had feathers coming out and were much more expensive. If picking off a few white feathers is the price I have to pay for a warm and stylish winter layer, then it is a fair trade-off in my opinion.
Who Is This FP Movement Puffer Jacket Best For?
This jacket is perfect for anyone who wants a warm and durable style that can withstand harsh weather conditions, keep them stylish throughout the season, and is lightweight enough not to feel suffocating. Unlike other structured winter coats, this packable style is made of wrinkle-free material, making it ideal for travel. You can easily collapse it, squeeze it into your suitcase or carry-on, and go without worrying about damaging its shape or design. I love taking it with me on the road (it also doubles as a great car pillow!) and would recommend it to frequent travelers looking for a hassle-free and reliable jacket.
