Retired LPGA Star Shares Emotional Message to Husband Amid Daughter’s Epilepsy Struggles

Reading Time: 2 mins read

Former LPGA pro Jane Park may have missed the cut at the 2021 Volunteers of America Classic, but the disappointment was quickly overshadowed by a more important moment- watching her 10-month-old daughter, Grace, take her very first assisted steps.

For Park, who has been struggling with a string of early exits from professional golf tournaments, this moment with her daughter was far more significant and meaningful. It was a reminder of the things that truly matter in life and a source of comfort during a time of professional disappointment.

In a heartfelt message to her husband, Pete Godfrey, shared on Instagram, Park expressed her gratitude for his unwavering support during their daughter’s battle with epilepsy. She wrote, “When I missed the cut for the third time in a row, Gracie decided to take her first steps. I was sad and disappointed, but her joy and determination brought so much perspective to my life. I may not be able to control my golf game, but I can control how I handle the ups and downs. Thank you, Pete, for always being there to lift me up when I am down.”

It is clear that Park’s priorities have shifted since becoming a mother. She no longer defines herself solely by her performance on the golf course, but rather by her role as a mother and wife. And while her professional struggles may bring her down, her family gives her the strength and motivation to keep going.

Park’s journey as a mother has not been easy. In December 2020, she revealed that her daughter had been diagnosed with epilepsy and has been battling the condition ever since. In another Instagram post, Park shared a video of her daughter having a seizure and wrote, “This is a scary video to post, but it’s a reminder of how strong my daughter is. She’s been fighting epilepsy since she was born.”

Despite the challenges, Park and her husband have been open and honest about their daughter’s struggles, raising awareness about epilepsy and showing their support for other families going through similar experiences.

In the midst of all this, Grace has become a beacon of hope and inspiration for her parents. Her determination to take her first steps despite her condition is a testament to her strength and resilience. Park shared in an interview with LPGA, “When I see her try so hard, it inspires me to keep trying and to not give up.”

Park’s message to her husband is a reminder to all of us that in life, success and happiness cannot always be measured by material achievements. It is the love and support of our loved ones that truly matters and gives us the strength to overcome any challenges we may face.

As Park continues to navigate the ups and downs of professional golf, she knows that she has her husband and daughter by her side, cheering her on every step of the way. And that is something far more valuable than any trophy or title.

In conclusion, Jane Park’s journey as a mother has taught her valuable lessons about life, perspective, and the power of love. Her message to her husband serves as a reminder to all of us to cherish the important moments and people in our lives, even in the face of disappointments and challenges. And as for Grace, she may be just 10 months old, but she has already shown the world that she is a fighter and a source of boundless joy and inspiration for her family.
