With Halloween just around the corner, everyone is getting into the spooky spirit, including actress Kiernan Shipka. Known for her roles in the hit TV series “Mad Men” and “Chilling Adventures of Sabrina,” Shipka is no stranger to the horror genre.
Recently, the 20-year-old star teamed up with the popular phone app, Hatch, for their chilling new campaign trailer titled “Goodnight, Phone.” In the trailer, Shipka plays a young woman who becomes increasingly obsessed with her phone, leading to terrifying consequences.
In an exclusive interview with ET, Shipka shared her Halloween essentials while discussing her experience filming the eerie campaign trailer.
First and foremost, Shipka revealed that Halloween is one of her favorite holidays. “I just love everything about it – the costumes, the decorations, the candy, the spooky vibes,” she said. And it’s clear from her role as Sabrina Spellman in the dark fantasy series that she has a knack for all things spooky.
When asked about her Halloween essentials, Shipka mentioned that she always makes sure to have a good playlist ready for the occasion. “Music is such an important part of setting the mood for Halloween, and I love creating a playlist with all my favorite Halloween-themed songs,” she shared.
Shipka also emphasized the importance of a good costume. “I love getting creative with my costumes, and I think it’s such a fun way to express yourself and have a good time on Halloween,” she said. From classic horror movie characters to pop culture references, Shipka has rocked some impressive costumes over the years.
But what about the treats? Shipka admitted that she has a sweet tooth and loves indulging in Halloween candy. “I have a weakness for anything chocolate, so Halloween is the perfect excuse to indulge in all the delicious treats,” she laughed.
As for her experience filming “Goodnight, Phone,” Shipka shared that it was a unique and thrilling experience. “It was definitely a different kind of acting challenge for me, since most of my scenes were just me and my phone,” she said. “But it was so interesting to explore the dark side of our dependence on technology.”
Shipka also praised the Hatch app for their innovative and creative approach to the campaign. “I think it’s such a clever concept to use a phone app to create a horror-themed campaign. It’s definitely something that hasn’t been done before,” she said.
When asked about any spooky encounters she’s had with her phone, Shipka admitted that she’s had a few scary moments. “There have been times when my phone has randomly turned on or started playing a song, and it always gives me chills,” she shared. “But thankfully, nothing as terrifying as what happens in the trailer.”
As for her plans for this year’s Halloween, Shipka is looking forward to spending time with her friends and family. “I’ll definitely be watching some classic horror movies, carving pumpkins, and of course, indulging in some Halloween treats,” she said.
In the end, Shipka hopes that viewers will not only enjoy the chilling campaign trailer but also take away an important message. “I think it’s important to remember to disconnect from our phones once in a while and enjoy the present moment,” she said. “And what better time to do that than on Halloween, when we can all embrace the spooky spirit together.”
With her infectious love for Halloween and her impressive acting skills, Kiernan Shipka is sure to make this year’s Halloween a memorable one. And with the release of “Goodnight, Phone,” she’s reminding us all to keep our phones close, but our sanity closer. Happy Halloween!
