Walls Closing In on Ed Orgeron as LSU Legend Tries to Enter New Pac-12 Era & Gets Rejected

When Louisiana State University (LSU) announced the firing of head football coach Brian Kelly, it marked the beginning of something new and the end of a messy chapter in Baton Rouge. But for many LSU fans, it also signaled the end of an era that saw the Tigers achieve a legendary 2019 national title under the guidance of Coach Ed Orgeron.

Weeks before the firing, Coach Orgeron, affectionately known as “Coach O”, had expressed his desire to continue coaching at the college level. However, this dream of his was cut short when LSU rejected his request to join the Pac-12 conference. The walls seem to be closing in on Coach O, as he struggles to find a new home and continue his coaching career.

Orgeron’s journey with LSU began in 2016 when he was appointed as interim head coach after the mid-season firing of Les Miles. Despite facing a difficult start, Coach O quickly turned things around and led the team to a respectable 6-2 finish, earning him the permanent head coaching position.

But it was in 2019 that Coach O etched his name in LSU history books. Guiding the team to an undefeated 15-0 season, he led the Tigers to their first national championship in over a decade. The team’s dominant performance on the field, combined with Coach O’s charismatic personality, made him a beloved figure among LSU fans.

However, the 2020 season proved to be a tumultuous one for Coach O and the Tigers. After losing key players to the NFL draft and struggling with injuries and COVID-19 protocols, LSU finished with a disappointing 5-5 record. Off-field controversies, including sexual misconduct allegations against a former player and a Title IX investigation into the football program, further tarnished the team’s reputation.

As the dust settled, LSU’s board of supervisors decided to make a change at the top and Kelly was brought on as the new head coach. While some fans were relieved to see a fresh start for the team, others were heartbroken to see Coach O leave.

But despite the tough circumstances, Coach O remains positive and determined to continue his coaching career. In an interview with ESPN, he stated, “I love coaching and I love being around young people. I’m going to continue to do that whether it’s here or somewhere else.”

Unfortunately, his hopes of joining the Pac-12 conference were dashed when LSU rejected his request. The reason, as stated by the university, was due to an ongoing contract dispute between Coach O and LSU. However, this rejection may have been a blessing in disguise for Coach O.

The Pac-12 conference is known for its competitive football, and Coach O’s recent struggles at LSU may not have translated well in this new environment. Plus, with his reputation and experience, there’s no doubt that he will have no shortage of opportunities to continue coaching at the college level.

It’s clear that Coach O’s legacy at LSU will always be remembered. He brought a national championship to a team that had been longing for one for years. His ability to connect with his players and motivate them to give their best on the field will always be admired by the LSU community.

As Coach O enters this new chapter in his life, it’s important to remember that the end of one journey is just the beginning of another. His positive attitude and determination will undoubtedly lead him to new and exciting opportunities in the world of college football. And wherever he goes, he will always be a legend in the hearts and minds of LSU fans.

So let’s wish Coach O all the best as he embarks on his journey towards a new era. Let’s celebrate his achievements and thank him for the memories he has given us. And most importantly, let’s remember that sometimes, the end of a chapter is just the start of something even greater.
