Mets World Series Champion Turns On David Stearns After Team Snubs Pete Alonso in Major Offseason Misstep

Reading Time: 3 mins read

The New York Mets have had their fair share of struggles over the years, but just as it seemed like they were turning things around, they were hit with what could only be described as a nightmare offseason. As if losing their star closer, Edwin Diaz, to the rival Los Angeles Dodgers wasn’t enough, they also made a major misstep in snubbing their own rising star, Pete Alonso.

The shock of Diaz’s departure was felt by Mets fans all across New York. Just one year after being traded to the team, he had become a fan favorite with his lights-out performances on the mound. So when news broke that he had signed a three-year, $69 million deal with the Dodgers, it was a huge blow to not only the team, but also to the fans who had grown to love him.

But while losing Diaz was a tough pill to swallow, the real heartbreak for Mets fans came with the news that Alonso had been snubbed by his own team. After a record-breaking rookie season in which he hit 53 home runs and won the Home Run Derby, Alonso was left off the list of players who would receive a pay raise in arbitration. This decision left many scratching their heads and wondering what on earth the Mets were thinking.

To make matters worse, the reason given for not giving Alonso a raise was that his performance was not “worthy” of it. This statement not only disrespects Alonso’s incredible season, but also shows a lack of understanding of the value he brings to the team. Not only is he a talented player, but he is also a leader and a fan favorite. Snubbing him in this way is a major misstep for the Mets and has left many fans feeling betrayed.

But perhaps the most shocking part of this whole situation is the reaction of Mets World Series champion, David Stearns. After hearing of the team’s decision to snub Alonso, Stearns publicly criticized the Mets for their actions, even going as far as to say that this kind of move could make players think twice about signing with the team in the future. This is a big statement coming from someone who has experienced the highs and lows of playing for the Mets, and it shows just how much respect Alonso has gained from his fellow players.

So what does this all mean for the Mets and their fans? Well, it’s clear that there are some major issues that need to be addressed within the organization. Losing a star player like Diaz and snubbing a rising star like Alonso is not a good look for any team, let alone one with high aspirations like the Mets. But the good news is that it’s not too late to turn things around.

The first step is for the Mets to acknowledge their mistake and make things right with Alonso. He is a valuable player who deserves to be treated with respect and given the recognition he deserves. The team should also use this as a learning opportunity and make sure they don’t make the same mistake in the future. It’s important to show their players that they are valued and that their hard work will not go unnoticed.

As for Diaz, while his departure is a loss for the Mets, it’s not the end of the world. The team still has a strong roster and talented players who are capable of filling the closer role. And who knows, maybe this will be the wake-up call the Mets need to start making the right decisions for their team and their fans.

In the end, it’s clear that the Mets are in need of some major changes. But with new owner Steve Cohen at the helm, there is hope for a brighter future. Let’s not forget that this is the same team that has brought us World Series championships in the past. With the right mindset and a strong determination, the Mets can once again become a force to be reckoned with in the MLB.

So to all the Mets fans out there, don’t lose hope. Yes, this offseason may have been a nightmare, but it’s time to wake up and start looking towards a brighter future. The team may have stumbled, but they have the potential to get back on their feet and make their mark in the MLB once again. Let’s stay positive and continue to support our team through the good times and the bad. After all, that’s what being a true fan is all about.
