Kyle Larson & Co. Set to Honor Late Sprint Car Legend in Two-Day Long Racing Spectacle

When a legend passes, their memory never fades away. This is particularly true in the world of NASCAR, where countless drivers, team owners, and other employees have left an indelible mark on the sport. But there is one sprint racing icon whose legacy remains strong, and will be honored in a special two-day racing spectacle.

Kyle Larson and his team will pay tribute to the late sprint car legend, Jason Johnson, in a two-day racing event at Iowa’s Knoxville Raceway. This event is not just about racing, but about celebrating the life and achievements of a beloved figure in the racing community.

Johnson was a highly respected and accomplished sprint car driver, winning numerous races and championships throughout his career. He was known for his fearless driving style and his infectious personality, which made him a fan favorite. Johnson tragically lost his life in a racing accident in 2018, leaving behind a wife and young son.

Since his passing, Johnson has been fondly remembered by his peers and fans alike. But this event at Knoxville Raceway will be a fitting tribute to his legacy. The two-day event, dubbed the “Corn Belt Nationals,” will not only feature sprint car races, but also various activities to honor Johnson’s memory.

The first day of the event will include a memorial golf tournament, a silent auction, and a special driver’s meeting where Johnson’s wife, Bobbi, will give the command to start engines. The second day will see a pre-race ceremony dedicated to Johnson, followed by a 41-lap feature race in his honor. Johnson’s number, 41, will also be retired from competition at the track.

But it’s not just about honoring a fallen legend, this event also aims to raise funds for the Jason Johnson Racing team and the JJR Foundation. The foundation was established by Johnson’s wife to support the racing community and provide assistance to injured drivers and their families. This event will serve as a platform to continue Johnson’s legacy of giving back to the sport he loved.

For Kyle Larson, this event holds a special significance. He was mentored by Johnson early in his sprint car career and the two shared a close bond. In fact, Larson credits Johnson for his success and for shaping him into the driver he is today. This event is his way of honoring his friend and mentor, and preserving his memory for generations to come.

The Corn Belt Nationals is not just a race, but a celebration of life and the enduring impact of a true racing icon. It is a reminder that even in the face of tragedy, the spirit of the racing community remains unbreakable. Johnson’s legacy will never be forgotten, and this event serves as a testament to the impact he had on the sport and the people around him.

In the words of Kyle Larson, “Jason was a racer and a great person. His legacy will live on through his family, his team, and the countless lives he has touched. I am honored to be a part of this event and to pay my respects to a dear friend.” The racing world will come together to honor Johnson’s memory, and in doing so, they will keep his legacy alive and thriving.
