“I Didn’t Know He Was a Cop”: Sean Strickland Has Zero Regrets Over 6-Month Suspension Before UFC Houston

As UFC Houston approaches, fans and fighters alike are eagerly anticipating the highly anticipated matchup between Sean Strickland and Kamaru Usman. While the fight itself promises to be a thrilling showdown between two of the top welterweights in the world, one aspect of Strickland’s journey to this point has garnered some attention – his six-month suspension by the Nevada State Athletic Commission.

But instead of shying away from the topic, Strickland has been vocal about his suspension and has even gone as far as to celebrate it. In a sport where fighters often try to downplay or brush off any setbacks, Strickland’s unapologetic attitude towards his suspension is a breath of fresh air.

For those who may not be aware, Strickland’s suspension stemmed from an incident at a regional event last summer. The former middleweight champion’s emotions got the best of him as he stormed the cage during a colleague’s fight and exchanged words with a commission official. While this may have been a lapse in judgment on Strickland’s part, he has zero regrets over the incident.

In a recent interview, Strickland explained his perspective on the situation, saying, “I didn’t know he was a cop. I thought he was just some nerd trying to tell me what to do.” Although this may not be the most politically correct response, it shows Strickland’s unfiltered personality and his refusal to conform to society’s expectations.

And that refusal to conform has been a driving force in Strickland’s career. He has always been known for his brash and outspoken personality, often ruffling feathers with his no-holds-barred approach to interviews and interactions with other fighters. But rather than try to fit into the mold of a “perfect” fighter, Strickland has embraced his quirks and has stayed true to himself, which has resonated with fans.

Even during his suspension, Strickland has kept busy and has not shied away from the spotlight. He has continued to train and improve his skills, and has even taken up other interests such as painting and woodworking. But most importantly, he has not let his suspension define him or hold him back from pursuing his dreams.

In fact, Strickland sees his suspension as a blessing in disguise. It has given him time to reflect on his actions and make necessary changes, both inside and outside of the cage. He has also used the time to study his upcoming opponent, Kamaru Usman, and is confident that he has what it takes to defeat the current welterweight champion.

“I’m gonna beat him, and then I’m gonna say ‘I’m the baddest f***** on the planet,'” Strickland boldly declared in a recent interview. And while some may see this as arrogance, it’s simply Strickland being himself – unapologetic and confident in his abilities.

As fight week approaches, Strickland’s suspension may still be a topic of conversation, but it is clear that he is not dwelling on it. He is fully focused on his upcoming fight and is determined to make a statement in the octagon. And with his unorthodox approach and unwavering self-belief, he may just do that.

So while most fighters would try to downplay their suspension and brush it off as a minor setback, Sean Strickland is proudly owning it. And that kind of authenticity and fearlessness is what makes him a fan favorite and a formidable opponent in the UFC. As they say, “never apologize for being yourself,” and Strickland is a perfect example of that.
