Pat McAfee has surely cemented himself as the ultimate jack of all trades in the world of sports media. From football to commentary, and even wrestling, McAfee has conquered everything he’s set his mind to. However, even the most energetic and ambitious person reaches their limit eventually. And now, McAfee has recently confirmed that he’s ready to let go of one of his global gigs – his return to WWE commentary is not expected anytime soon.
McAfee first stepped into the world of professional sports in 2009 when he was drafted by the Indianapolis Colts as a punter. He spent eight successful years with the team, before announcing his sudden retirement in 2017. While many believed he was making a mistake, McAfee had other plans in mind.
After retiring from the Colts, McAfee began his journey in the world of commentary. He joined Barstool Sports as a columnist and started his own daily talk show, The Pat McAfee Show. And just like that, he became a household name in the sports media industry. His unique and entertaining style of commentary caught the attention of WWE, and before long, he found himself as a guest commentator for NXT TakeOver: WarGames in 2019.
The response from fans was overwhelming, and McAfee soon became a staple on the WWE commentary team. He was praised for his enthusiasm, knowledge of the sport, and wit. Fans loved his chemistry with fellow commentators Michael Cole and Triple H, and it seemed like WWE had found their next Jim Ross.
But as expected with someone as talented and versatile as McAfee, other opportunities came knocking. In 2020, he joined ESPN’s College GameDay as a football analyst, adding another feather to his cap. This opened up a whole new world of possibilities for McAfee, who had always been passionate about football.
With his schedule getting busier by the day, it was inevitable that McAfee would have to step back from some of his commitments. And it seems like WWE is the one to take the hit. In a recent interview, McAfee confirmed that he won’t be returning to WWE commentary anytime soon, but left the door open for a possible return in the future.
“I don’t think you ever [return to WWE commentary] especially not with my schedule now,” McAfee said. “I mean, I just don’t know that could ever happen and for the foreseeable future, I think it’s kind of in the rearview as I continue to march on with everything we’ve got going.”
While this may come as a disappointment to his fans, who have loved his commentary and banter on WWE shows, they can still catch him on College GameDay and his own show, The Pat McAfee Show. And who knows, maybe this break from WWE will give McAfee an opportunity to explore other avenues in the world of sports media.
One thing is for sure – Pat McAfee’s future is bright and full of exciting opportunities. His infectious energy and charismatic personality have made him a fan favorite in everything he does. And with his commitment to always keep pushing the boundaries and taking on new challenges, there’s no limit to what he can achieve.
So, while we may not see Pat McAfee behind the WWE commentary desk anytime soon, we can be sure that he’ll continue to make a mark in the world of sports media. Kudos to this multi-talented and unstoppable force who continues to inspire and entertain us all.
