Rosanna Arquette hits back at claims from Harvey Weinstein’s prison interview: “I have never exaggerated my assault”

In a recent interview from prison, disgraced former film producer Harvey Weinstein made shocking claims, stating that actresses like Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie had “exaggerated” their claims of sexual assault in order to be “part of the club” that destroyed him. However, actress Rosanna Arquette has hit back at these claims, stating that she has never exaggerated her own experience of assault.

Weinstein, who is currently serving a 23-year prison sentence for rape and sexual assault, spoke to the New York Post from Wende Correctional Facility in New York, where he made these controversial statements. He also claimed that he had been a “pioneer” in terms of promoting women in the film industry, despite the numerous allegations of sexual misconduct against him.

But Arquette, who was one of the first women to come forward with allegations against Weinstein in 2017, has vehemently denied his claims. In a statement to NME, she said, “I have never exaggerated my assault. I have told the truth and I stand by it.”

Arquette’s statement is a powerful reminder that the #MeToo movement is not about being “part of a club” or seeking fame and attention. It is about speaking up and holding those in power accountable for their actions. As an actress, Arquette has had a successful career in Hollywood, but it has not come without its challenges.

In 2017, Arquette joined the long list of women who bravely came forward with their stories of sexual harassment and assault at the hands of Weinstein. She shared her experience of being invited to a meeting at his hotel room, where he greeted her in a bathrobe and asked for a massage. When she refused, he grabbed her hand and placed it on his crotch. This traumatizing experience left a lasting impact on Arquette and she has been vocal about the need for change in the industry ever since.

Weinstein’s claims that actresses like Paltrow and Jolie exaggerated their experiences in order to be a part of the movement that brought him down is not only offensive, but it also undermines the courage and strength of these women. It takes immense bravery to come forward with such allegations, especially when the perpetrator holds so much power and influence in the industry.

It is also important to note that Weinstein’s actions were not limited to Hollywood’s elite. He used his power and influence to prey on vulnerable women who were trying to make a name for themselves in the industry. This is a systemic issue that goes far beyond just a few actresses seeking fame and attention.

Weinstein’s claims also highlight the need for continued support and advocacy for survivors of sexual assault. The #MeToo movement has brought about a much-needed conversation and has given a voice to those who have been silenced for too long. It is crucial that we continue to listen to and believe survivors, and work towards creating a safer and more inclusive environment for all.

In light of Weinstein’s comments, it is more important than ever to stand in solidarity with survivors and continue to push for accountability and change in the industry. As Arquette stated, “I stand in solidarity with all the women who have come forward and spoken their truth. We will not be silenced.”

In conclusion, Weinstein’s claims that actresses exaggerated their experiences of assault in order to be a part of a destructive club are not only false, but they also perpetuate harmful stereotypes and undermine the bravery of survivors. It is time to shift the focus from the perpetrators to the survivors and continue to work towards a safer and more equitable industry for all.
