The Drama Is a Bleak Comedy With No Payoff

Zendaya and Robert Pattinson are two of the most sought-after and talented actors in Hollywood today. With their impressive acting skills and charismatic presence, it’s no surprise that they have been chosen to star in Kristoffer Borgli’s latest film. Titled “Do What the Story Asks”, the film tells the story of two individuals who are faced with challenging and thought-provoking situations. While the co-stars deliver commendable performances, the film itself leaves much to be desired.

Borgli’s film follows the lives of two strangers, played by Zendaya and Pattinson, who are brought together by a series of unpredictable events. As they navigate through their individual struggles, they also find solace in each other’s company. The film raises important questions about life, relationships, and the choices we make. However, it fails to provide satisfactory answers to these questions, leaving the audience with an unfinished and unsatisfied feeling.

Despite the film’s shortcomings, Zendaya and Pattinson shine in their respective roles. Zendaya, known for her powerful performances in “Euphoria” and “Malcolm and Marie”, once again proves her versatility as an actress. She effortlessly portrays the complex emotions of her character, making the audience empathize with her struggles. On the other hand, Pattinson, who has previously impressed us with his performances in “Twilight” and “Tenet”, delivers a nuanced performance as a man trying to find his purpose in life. The chemistry between the two actors is palpable, making their on-screen relationship believable and heartfelt.

One of the strengths of “Do What the Story Asks” is its stunning visuals. Borgli, known for his unique and visually striking style, does not disappoint with this film. The cinematography is breathtaking, capturing the beauty of the landscapes and the raw emotions of the characters. The soundtrack also adds to the overall mood of the film, enhancing the viewing experience.

However, where the film falls short is in its storytelling. While it asks thought-provoking questions, it fails to provide any substantial answers or resolution. The film’s narrative is disjointed and at times confusing, making it difficult for the audience to fully connect with the characters and their journeys. It almost feels like the film is trying to be too clever for its own good, leaving the audience with more questions than answers.

In addition, the pacing of the film is slow, and at times, it feels like it’s dragging on. The lack of a clear direction and resolution makes it challenging to stay invested in the story. Despite the strong performances by Zendaya and Pattinson, it’s not enough to save the film from its flawed storytelling.

In conclusion, while “Do What the Story Asks” may have its flaws, it is still worth watching for the exceptional performances by Zendaya and Pattinson. They do justice to their characters and bring depth and emotion to the story. However, the film’s lack of answers and resolution may leave some viewers feeling unsatisfied. Nevertheless, it is a visually stunning film that raises important questions and showcases the talents of two of the most talented actors in Hollywood.
