Vic Schaefer’s Texas Hit With Triple Blow as Three Key Forwards Enter the Transfer Portal

Reading Time: 3 mins read

The Texas Longhorns women’s basketball team has been dealt a major blow as three key players have entered the transfer portal. This news comes as a shock to fans and the team, as it will leave a huge dent in their roster. Head coach Vic Schaefer will now have to regroup and find a way to fill the void left by these players.

The transfer portal has become a common trend in college sports, with players looking for better opportunities or a change of scenery. Losing even one key player can shake things up for a team, but losing three at the same time is a significant setback. For the Longhorns, this is exactly the situation they find themselves in.

Within hours of the transfer portal window opening, Aaliyah Moore, Karisma Ortiz, and Lauren Ebo all announced their decision to leave the program. These three players were crucial to the team’s success and their departure will undoubtedly leave a void in the Longhorns’ lineup.

Moore, a 6’4″ forward, was a highly-touted recruit and made an immediate impact in her freshman season. She averaged 12.8 points and 8.2 rebounds per game and was named to the Big 12 All-Freshman team. Her size and athleticism made her a dominant force in the paint and she was a key contributor on both ends of the court.

Ortiz, a 5’10” guard, was a transfer from Penn State and made an immediate impact in her lone season with the Longhorns. She started in all 29 games and averaged 9.9 points and 4.4 rebounds per game. Her ability to score from the perimeter and attack the basket made her a valuable asset to the team.

Ebo, a 6’4″ forward, was a graduate transfer from Penn State and brought a wealth of experience to the Longhorns. She started in 25 games and averaged 6.5 points and 4.9 rebounds per game. Her size and physicality made her a strong presence in the paint and her leadership on and off the court will be missed.

Losing these three players will undoubtedly be a setback for the Longhorns, but it also presents an opportunity for other players to step up and fill the void. Coach Schaefer has a track record of developing players and getting the best out of his team. He will now have to utilize his coaching skills to find a way to keep the Longhorns competitive.

The timing of these transfers is also a cause for concern. With the transfer portal window opening, it leaves the Longhorns with limited options to fill the void left by these players. However, Coach Schaefer has already shown his ability to recruit top talent and he will likely look to bring in some new faces to the team.

Despite this triple blow, there is still plenty of talent on the Longhorns’ roster. Players like Celeste Taylor, Audrey Warren, and Joanne Allen-Taylor will have to step up and take on a bigger role next season. They have shown glimpses of their potential and will now have the opportunity to shine.

The Longhorns also have a highly-touted recruiting class coming in, headlined by five-star guard Rori Harmon. The addition of these new players, along with the returning talent, will give the Longhorns a strong foundation to build upon.

This news may come as a disappointment to Longhorns fans, but it also presents an opportunity for the team to come together and overcome this adversity. Coach Schaefer is a proven winner and he will undoubtedly use this setback as motivation to push his team to new heights.

In the end, these transfers may be a blessing in disguise for the Longhorns. It will force them to adapt and find new ways to win, which will only make them a stronger and more resilient team. With Coach Schaefer at the helm, the future is still bright for the Texas Longhorns women’s basketball team.
