After months of facing numerous setbacks, undergoing multiple surgeries, and enduring tense hospital stays, Ben Askren’s recovery has finally taken a positive turn. The former UFC fighter, who was in a coma for weeks after a double lung transplant, is now making progress, something that his wife, Amy Askren, had been openly praying for. In the United States, such life-saving procedures come with a hefty price tag, but the Askren family has received an outpouring of support from the MMA community and beyond.

Ben Askren, known for his impressive wrestling skills and undefeated record in Bellator and ONE Championship, made his UFC debut in 2019. However, his time in the UFC was short-lived as he suffered back-to-back losses to Jorge Masvidal and Demian Maia. In November 2019, he announced his retirement from MMA to focus on his family and other business ventures.

But just a few months later, in December 2019, Askren’s life took an unexpected turn when he was diagnosed with a rare condition called antiphospholipid syndrome. This autoimmune disorder caused his lungs to fail, and he was put on a waiting list for a double lung transplant. The MMA community rallied behind Askren, with many fighters and fans sending their well wishes and prayers for his recovery.

After months of waiting, the call finally came in March 2020, and Askren underwent the life-saving surgery. However, his road to recovery was far from smooth. He faced complications and had to undergo several more surgeries, spending weeks in a coma. But through it all, his wife Amy remained by his side, providing unwavering support and keeping their family and fans updated on his progress.

In a recent Instagram post, Amy shared a handwritten note thanking everyone who played a role in Ben’s recovery. She specifically mentioned Jake Paul, the YouTube star who had a highly publicized feud with Ben before his health issues. Paul donated $500,000 towards Askren’s surgery and even offered to fight him in a boxing match to raise more funds.

Amy also expressed gratitude towards UFC President Dana White, who not only donated $10,000 towards the surgery but also offered to cover any additional medical expenses. She also thanked the MMA community and fans for their love, support, and prayers throughout this difficult time.

The post has received an overwhelming response, with fans and fellow fighters sending their well wishes and congratulating the Askren family on this positive turn in Ben’s recovery. It is heartwarming to see the MMA community come together to support one of their own in a time of need.

Ben Askren’s journey to recovery is far from over, but this recent update gives hope and encouragement to his family and fans. It is a reminder of the strength and resilience of the human spirit and the power of love and support in overcoming adversity.

In a sport known for its brutal and competitive nature, it is heartwarming to see the MMA community come together to support one of their own. This is a testament to the camaraderie and brotherhood that exists in the world of MMA, and it is moments like these that truly showcase the beauty of the sport.

As Ben continues on his road to recovery, we can only hope that he will soon be back to full health and able to enjoy life with his family and loved ones. His story is a reminder to never give up, even in the face of seemingly insurmountable challenges. We wish Ben Askren all the best in his recovery and look forward to seeing him back in the MMA world in the future.
