UN Staff Federation Remembers with Sorrow the Many who have Fallen in the Line of Duty

Reading Time: 2 mins read

On this World Humanitarian Day, we join together with the global community to honor and recognize the brave individuals who dedicate their lives to protecting people in crisis. It is a day to pay tribute to the selfless efforts of humanitarian workers who risk their lives to provide aid and assistance to those most in need.

As members of the CCISUA Staff Federation, we stand in solidarity with our colleagues around the world who tirelessly work towards creating a better and more compassionate world. We salute their courage, their determination, and their unwavering commitment to humanity.

This year’s theme, “Act For Humanity,” serves as a powerful reminder of the urgent need for action and solidarity in the face of humanitarian crises. It is a call to leaders and to the public to confront the challenges and injustices that continue to plague our world. It is a call to unite and to stand together in the face of adversity, and to take concrete steps towards building a more peaceful and equitable society.

The past year has been a particularly challenging one for humanitarian workers, as they have been on the frontlines of the COVID-19 pandemic, risking their own health and safety to provide essential services to those affected by the virus. They have also continued to respond to ongoing conflicts, natural disasters, and other humanitarian emergencies, never wavering in their commitment to those in need.

We also take this day to remember with sorrow the many humanitarian workers who have lost their lives in the line of duty. Their sacrifices will never be forgotten, and their legacies will continue to inspire us to do more, to be better, and to act with compassion and humanity.

As we reflect on the meaning of World Humanitarian Day, let us also remember that humanitarianism is not just a profession, but a way of life. It is about putting the needs of others before our own, and recognizing that we are all connected and responsible for each other’s well-being.

We urge leaders and decision-makers to take concrete actions to support and protect humanitarian workers, and to address the root causes of humanitarian crises. We call on the public to stand in solidarity with those affected by crises, and to support the work of humanitarian organizations.

On this World Humanitarian Day, let us all pledge to “Act For Humanity” in our daily lives. Let us be kinder, more compassionate, and more understanding towards those in need. Let us come together as a global community to build a more just and humane world for all.

To all the humanitarian workers across the world, we thank you for your unwavering dedication and service. You are the true heroes of our time, and your efforts do not go unnoticed. We stand with you, we honor you, and we will continue to support you in your noble mission to make this world a better place for all.
