New York City Mayoral Election: What the Latest Polls Say

in International
Reading Time: 3 mins read

Close to half a million New Yorkers have made their voices heard in the highly anticipated NYC mayoral election, with early voting numbers showing a significant turnout. As the race for the city’s top job heats up, the latest polls reveal some interesting insights into the minds of voters.

According to the New York City Board of Elections, as of June 18th, 2021, a whopping 486,507 New Yorkers have already cast their ballots in the election. This is a significant increase from the previous mayoral election in 2017, where only 160,000 early votes were recorded. It seems that the people of New York are determined to have their say in who will lead the city for the next four years.

So who are New Yorkers leaning towards as their next mayor? The latest polls show that the leading candidate is Democratic nominee and current Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams. With a strong background in law enforcement and a focus on public safety, Adams is ahead in the polls with 22% of the vote. Following closely behind is former Democratic presidential candidate and entrepreneur Andrew Yang, with 16% of the vote.

While Adams and Yang are currently in the lead, other candidates are not far behind. Civil rights lawyer Maya Wiley has 15% of the vote, followed by former city sanitation commissioner Kathryn Garcia with 14%. Rounding out the top five is City Comptroller Scott Stringer with 9% of the vote. The remaining candidates, including Republican nominee and Guardian Angels founder Curtis Sliwa, are all polling at under 5%.

As the candidates make their final push before Election Day on June 22nd, it is important to understand what issues are driving voters to the polls. The top concerns for New Yorkers include public safety, affordable housing, and economic recovery post-pandemic. The poll results show that Adams is leading in all three categories, which could explain his current lead in the race.

However, it is important to note that the polls are not always accurate indicators of the final outcome. As we have seen in many past elections, anything can happen on Election Day. This is why it is crucial for every eligible voter to exercise their right and cast their ballot. One vote can make all the difference in determining the future of our city.

The high turnout in early voting is a positive sign that New Yorkers are engaged and committed to shaping the future of their city. This election is crucial as New York continues to recover from the devastating effects of the pandemic. It is a chance for us to choose a leader who will prioritize the well-being and success of all New Yorkers.

No matter who you support in this election, it is important to remember that every vote counts. As we have seen in the past, elections can often be won by a narrow margin, and every single vote can sway the outcome. So don’t sit on the sidelines, make your voice heard and shape the future of New York City.

As we approach the final days of the election, let us remember that this is not just about choosing a mayor, but also about standing up for what we believe in. It is about being an active and engaged citizen, and using our democratic right to make a difference. So let’s continue to see strong voter turnout and make this election one to remember.

In the midst of all the chaos and uncertainty in the world, this election is a reminder that we still have the power to shape our future. So let’s come together as New Yorkers and make our mark on history. Let’s show the world that our city is strong and united, and that nothing can stop us from moving forward. So get out and vote, and let’s make a positive change for our beloved city.
