Stranger Things Started as a Triumph of Trauma Bonding. It Ended as a Casualty of the Franchise Machine

In the midst of the chaos and turmoil of 2016, there was one thing that seemed to bring us all a sense of comfort and nostalgia – the well-made treat. Whether it was a warm chocolate chip cookie, a perfectly crafted latte, or a decadent slice of cake, these indulgences provided a momentary escape from the harsh realities of the outside world.

But as we fast forward to the present day, it seems that the once simple pleasure of enjoying a delicious treat has evolved into something much more complex and convoluted – a messy content factory. What was once a source of joy and comfort has now become a source of stress and pressure, both for consumers and creators alike.

So how did this happen? How did our beloved treats devolve into a chaotic and overwhelming industry? And what can we do to reclaim the simplicity and joy that they once brought us?

First and foremost, we must acknowledge the role that social media has played in this transformation. With the rise of platforms like Instagram and TikTok, the pressure to create visually appealing and share-worthy treats has skyrocketed. We are bombarded with perfectly styled photos and videos of mouth-watering treats, leaving us with a constant craving for more.

In this pursuit of perfection, many creators have turned to mass production and automation, sacrificing quality and authenticity for quantity and efficiency. This has led to a flood of generic and unoriginal treats flooding our feeds, all in the name of staying relevant and keeping up with the latest trends.

But what about the impact on consumers? As we scroll through endless images of picture-perfect treats, we can’t help but feel inadequate and unsatisfied with our own homemade creations. We compare ourselves to these seemingly flawless creations, forgetting that they are often the result of hours of editing, staging, and manipulation.

This pressure to constantly consume and create has also taken a toll on our mental and physical health. We are bombarded with an overwhelming amount of content, leaving us feeling overwhelmed and burnt out. And let’s not forget the impact on our waistlines – with the constant stream of tempting treats, it’s no wonder that many of us struggle with our relationship with food.

So how can we break free from this endless cycle of pressure and comparison? The answer lies in going back to basics – embracing the simplicity and imperfection of homemade treats.

Instead of striving for perfection, let’s focus on the joy and satisfaction that comes from creating something with our own hands. Let’s experiment with new flavors and techniques, without the pressure to make it Instagram-worthy. Let’s take the time to savor and appreciate each bite, rather than mindlessly scrolling through our feeds.

And for those who are in the business of creating treats, let’s remember the true purpose of our craft – to bring joy and comfort to others. Let’s prioritize quality over quantity, and authenticity over mass production. Let’s not succumb to the pressure to constantly churn out new and trendy treats, but rather focus on creating something that is truly special and unique.

In conclusion, the well-made treat that once provided us with a sense of nostalgia and comfort has unfortunately devolved into a messy content factory. But it’s not too late to reclaim the joy and simplicity that it once brought us. Let’s step away from the pressure and expectations of social media, and instead embrace the imperfection and authenticity of homemade treats. Let’s make 2021 the year of enjoying treats without the added stress and pressure.
