Brett Veach Announces Major Setback in Chiefs’ Draft Plans Amid Efforts to Ease Patrick Mahomes’ Workload

The Kansas City Chiefs have been dealt a major blow in their draft preparations as GM Brett Veach announced that the franchise is looking to make some improvements after a disappointing 6-11 season. This news comes as a surprise to many, as the Chiefs have been one of the most successful teams in recent years, making the playoffs every season since 2014. However, last season proved to be a difficult one for the team, with their star quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffering a season-ending ACL injury in December.

The Chiefs’ poor performance last season was a shock to fans and players alike. After all, they were coming off a successful 2018 campaign where they finished with a 12-4 record and made it all the way to the AFC Championship game. But with Mahomes’ injury, the team struggled to find their footing and failed to make the playoffs for the first time in six years.

In light of this setback, GM Brett Veach has made it clear that the Chiefs are determined to bounce back and reclaim their spot as one of the top teams in the league. Veach stated, “We were not satisfied with our performance last season, and we are working tirelessly to make sure that we are back where we belong – in the playoffs.”

One of the main factors in the Chiefs’ disappointing season was the absence of Patrick Mahomes. The 2018 MVP had a stellar season, throwing for over 4,000 yards and 26 touchdowns before his injury. Without him, the team struggled to find their rhythm and lacked their usual explosive offense. As a result, the front office is taking steps to ensure that this does not happen again.

The Chiefs have already made some moves to ease the workload on Mahomes, who has been the driving force behind their success. They have added depth to the quarterback position by signing veteran Chad Henne and drafting quarterback Jordan Ta’amu in the seventh round. This will give Mahomes the necessary support and rest he needs to stay healthy and lead the team to victory.

But it’s not just about Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs are also looking to strengthen their team in other positions. Veach revealed that they are focusing on improving their defense, which struggled last season. “We need to have a more balanced team,” Veach said. “Our defense needs to step up and support our high-powered offense.”

To achieve this, the Chiefs have made some significant offseason moves. They signed defensive end Frank Clark from the Seattle Seahawks and traded for cornerback Kendall Fuller from the Washington Redskins. These additions, along with the return of safety Tyrann Mathieu, who missed most of last season due to injury, will undoubtedly strengthen the defense and give the team a much-needed boost.

Despite the setback in their draft preparations, the Chiefs remain optimistic and determined to make a comeback. They have a talented roster, with players like Travis Kelce, Tyreek Hill, and Chris Jones leading the way. And with a healthy Patrick Mahomes at the helm, the Chiefs are more than capable of reclaiming their spot as one of the top teams in the league.

In conclusion, the Kansas City Chiefs may have faced a setback in their draft preparations, but they are not letting it dampen their spirits. GM Brett Veach and the rest of the organization are working hard to ensure that the team is back on track and ready to compete for a spot in the playoffs. With a strong roster and a determined mindset, the Chiefs are poised to have a successful season and make their fans proud once again.
