The highly anticipated fifth season of the hit BBC drama “Peaky Blinders” is set to premiere on August 25th, and fans are buzzing with excitement. Along with the return of the Shelby family and their notorious gang, viewers can also look forward to a killer soundtrack featuring some of the most talented and edgy artists in the indie music scene.

The soundtrack, titled “Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man,” is a collaboration between score composers Martin Slattery and Antony Genn. In an exclusive interview with NME, the duo revealed the inspiration behind the soundtrack and the process of curating such a diverse and impressive lineup of artists.

Slattery and Genn, who have previously worked on the soundtracks for “Killing Eve” and “The Virtues,” shared their excitement about working on “Peaky Blinders.” Genn described the show as “the coolest thing on TV right now,” and Slattery added, “It’s a real honour to be part of it.”

The soundtrack features a mix of established and up-and-coming artists, all handpicked by Slattery and Genn. One of the most exciting additions to the lineup is Grian Chatten, lead singer of the Dublin-based band Fontaines D.C. Chatten’s raw and intense vocals perfectly capture the gritty and dangerous world of “Peaky Blinders.”

Speaking about Chatten, Slattery said, “He’s an edgy fucker, and we love him.” Genn added, “He’s got that energy and that attitude that we were looking for.”

But Chatten is not the only standout artist on the soundtrack. The Irish folk band Lankum, who have been making waves in the music industry with their unique blend of traditional and contemporary sounds, also feature on the album. Slattery and Genn were drawn to their “dark and brooding” music, which they felt was a perfect fit for the show.

Another exciting addition to the lineup is Australian punk rock sensation Amy Taylor, frontwoman of the band Amyl and The Sniffers. Slattery and Genn were blown away by her “incredible energy” and knew she had to be a part of the soundtrack. “She’s a force to be reckoned with,” Genn said.

The soundtrack also features the hauntingly beautiful voice of Nick Cave, who has previously contributed to the show’s soundtrack. Slattery and Genn were thrilled to have him on board again, with Genn stating, “He’s a legend, and we’re honoured to have him.”

But it’s not just the established artists that make this soundtrack so special. Slattery and Genn also wanted to showcase emerging talent, and they found the perfect fit in Girl In The Year Above, a young band from Manchester. Slattery described their music as “dark and moody,” and Genn added, “They have a real intensity to their sound.”

When asked about the overall theme of the soundtrack, Slattery and Genn explained that they wanted to capture the essence of “Peaky Blinders” and its characters. “All the artists are dirty, gritty, and dangerous,” Genn said. “You’d want them with you in a bar room brawl.”

The soundtrack also features original compositions by Slattery and Genn, which they described as “dark and atmospheric.” They wanted to create a soundscape that would transport listeners into the world of “Peaky Blinders” and enhance the viewing experience.

Fans of the show can expect a diverse and eclectic mix of music on the soundtrack, ranging from punk rock to folk to original compositions. Slattery and Genn have curated a collection that perfectly captures the essence of “Peaky Blinders” and its characters.

In conclusion, “Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man” is not just a soundtrack, but a carefully crafted piece of art that adds another layer to the already captivating world of “Peaky Blinders.” With a lineup of talented and edgy artists, this soundtrack is sure to be a hit with both fans of the show and music lovers alike. So, get ready to immerse yourself in the dark and dangerous world of the Shelby family with this incredible soundtrack.
