Rubina Francis, a name that has now etched itself in the history of Indian sports, has made the nation proud by winning the bronze medal in the women’s air pistol SH1 event at the Paris Paralympics. With this remarkable feat, she has become India’s fourth shooting medalist at the prestigious event.

The 35-year-old from Bengaluru has overcome numerous challenges and obstacles to reach this stage and has proven that nothing is impossible if one has the determination and willpower to succeed. Her journey to the Paralympics is an inspiring tale of courage, resilience, and hard work.

Born with a congenital deformity in her right hand, Rubina was diagnosed with polio at the age of two. However, this did not deter her from pursuing her dreams. She was always passionate about sports and started playing badminton at the age of 10. But it was not until she discovered shooting that she found her true calling.

Rubina’s journey in shooting began in 2012 when she joined the Gun for Glory academy in Pune. She was immediately drawn to the sport and started training under the guidance of coach Pawan Singh. Her hard work and dedication soon paid off as she started winning medals at the national level.

In 2014, Rubina made her international debut at the IPC Shooting World Cup in Bangkok, Thailand. She won a bronze medal in the P2 (women’s 10m air pistol SH1) event, which was a huge boost to her confidence. Since then, there has been no looking back for Rubina.

Over the years, Rubina has represented India at various international events and has won several medals, including a silver at the 2018 Asian Para Games in Jakarta. However, her ultimate goal was to win a medal at the Paralympics, and she achieved it in style at the 2021 Paris Paralympics.

Rubina’s performance in the women’s air pistol SH1 event was nothing short of exceptional. She scored 216.8 points in the final, which was enough to secure the bronze medal. Her composure and focus under pressure were commendable, and she proved that she is a true champion.

Apart from her shooting skills, Rubina’s positive attitude and never-give-up spirit have been her biggest strengths. She has faced numerous challenges in her journey, but she has always emerged stronger and more determined. Her never-say-die attitude is an inspiration to all and a reminder that anything is possible if one has the courage to chase their dreams.

Rubina’s achievement at the Paris Paralympics has brought a ray of hope and joy to the entire nation, especially during these challenging times. She has become a role model for many young athletes and has shown that disability is not a hindrance to success.

Her success at the Paralympics has also highlighted the need for more support and recognition for para-athletes in India. Rubina’s journey is a testament to the fact that with proper training, facilities, and support, para-athletes can achieve great heights and make the nation proud.

In conclusion, Rubina Francis is a true inspiration and a shining example of determination, hard work, and perseverance. Her bronze medal at the Paris Paralympics is a proud moment for India and a reminder that our para-athletes are capable of achieving greatness on the world stage. We congratulate Rubina on her remarkable achievement and wish her all the best for her future endeavors. She has truly made the nation proud and will continue to inspire generations to come.
