Trump’s FCC Chief Says His Censorship Protects the Little Guy. It Really Serves One Powerful Man.

In recent years, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) has been at the center of controversy and scrutiny, thanks to its chairman, Brendan Carr. While the FCC is supposed to be an independent agency that serves the American people and promotes their interests, it seems that Carr has a different agenda in mind. His actions and decisions have been tailored to please one powerful man – Donald Trump.

When we look at the fights that Carr has picked during his tenure as FCC chair, it becomes clear that they are not local stories or issues that directly impact the average American. Instead, they seem to be carefully selected to align with the views and interests of Trump. This begs the question – is Carr really working in the best interests of the American people, or is he just trying to please his boss?

One of the most controversial decisions made by Carr and the FCC under Trump’s administration was the repeal of net neutrality in 2017. Net neutrality, which was put in place by the Obama administration, ensured that all internet traffic was treated equally and prevented internet service providers from controlling what content users could access. This decision was heavily criticized by consumer advocates, tech companies, and the public, who saw it as a move that would benefit big corporations and harm the average internet user.

Despite the widespread opposition, Carr stood firmly behind the repeal, claiming that it would promote investment and innovation in the telecom industry. However, it’s worth noting that the repeal was heavily supported by big telecom companies, who have been major donors to Trump’s political campaigns. It’s clear that this decision was not made to protect the little guy, but rather to serve the interests of Trump’s powerful donors.

Another example of Carr’s questionable actions is his support for the Sinclair Broadcast Group’s proposed merger with Tribune Media. Sinclair, which is known for its conservative bias, would have gained control of a significant portion of local news stations if the merger had gone through. This raised concerns about media consolidation and the potential for biased news coverage in the hands of one powerful corporation.

Despite these concerns, Carr approved the merger, claiming that it would benefit consumers and promote diversity in media ownership. However, it’s hard to ignore the fact that Sinclair has been a major supporter of Trump and his policies, even going as far as providing favorable coverage of his administration. It’s clear that Carr’s decision was not based on what’s best for the American people, but rather on pleasing Trump’s allies in the media.

Carr has also taken several actions that directly undermine local and state authority. In 2018, the FCC voted to limit the ability of states to regulate broadband internet services, claiming that it would create a more consistent and predictable regulatory environment. However, this decision took away the power from local governments to protect their citizens from unfair practices by internet providers.

In addition, Carr has also been a strong proponent of preempting local laws that limit the deployment of 5G technology. This has been met with resistance from local governments and community groups who are concerned about the potential health and safety risks of 5G technology. Yet, Carr has continued to push for the rapid deployment of 5G, disregarding these valid concerns.

It’s clear that Carr’s actions and decisions are not guided by the interests of the American people, but rather by his desire to please Trump and his allies. By stripping away local and state authority and pushing for policies that benefit big corporations, Carr has shown that he is more concerned with serving the interests of the wealthy and powerful than protecting the rights and well-being of the average American.

In an attempt to justify his actions, Carr has claimed that his censorship and deregulation efforts are meant to protect the little guy. However, it’s hard to believe this when his actions have consistently favored big corporations and those in power. It’s time for the FCC to truly serve the American people and put their interests first, rather than catering to the desires of one powerful man.

In conclusion, it’s clear that FCC chair Brendan Carr’s actions and decisions are not in line with the agency’s mission to serve the American people. Instead, they seem to be tailored to please Donald Trump and his allies. It’s time for the FCC to have a leader who prioritizes the interests of the American people and works towards creating a fair and equal telecommunications landscape. Until then, we can only hope that the little guy doesn’t continue to suffer at the hands of powerful men like Trump and Carr.
