Nintendo boss shuts down rumours of ‘Super Smash Bros.’ movie

Reading Time: 2 mins read

Nintendo fans have been buzzing with excitement ever since rumors of a ‘Super Smash Bros.’ movie started circulating. The thought of seeing all our favorite Nintendo characters come to life on the big screen was simply too good to be true. However, it seems like we might have to put a pin in our dreams for now.

In a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Nintendo’s president Shuntaro Furukawa shut down all speculations of a ‘Super Smash Bros.’ movie. When asked about the possibility of a movie featuring all Nintendo characters, he said, “I don’t think you’ll have a situation [where] all Nintendo characters would be joining.”

This statement has surely disappointed many fans who were eagerly waiting for the announcement of a ‘Super Smash Bros.’ movie. But let’s take a step back and think about it. Is it really a bad thing that Nintendo is not jumping on the movie bandwagon?

Firstly, it’s important to remember that Nintendo has always been cautious when it comes to their beloved characters. They are not one to easily give away the rights to their characters for a movie adaptation. This is because they want to maintain the integrity and authenticity of their characters, which is understandable. It’s always better to wait for the right opportunity rather than rushing into something that might not do justice to the original source material.

Moreover, Nintendo has had a rather rocky history with movie adaptations in the past. We all remember the disastrous ‘Super Mario Bros.’ movie from the 90s, which was a critical and commercial failure. This experience might have made Nintendo more hesitant to venture into the world of movies again.

But that doesn’t mean we won’t get to see our favorite characters on the big screen. Nintendo has been slowly expanding into the entertainment industry with collaborations like ‘Pokemon Detective Pikachu’ and the upcoming animated ‘Super Mario’ movie. These projects have been received well by fans and critics alike, which shows that Nintendo is taking calculated steps in the right direction.

Furukawa’s statement also leaves room for the possibility of a ‘Super Smash Bros.’ movie in the future. It’s not a definite no, but rather a cautious response. This gives us hope that Nintendo is carefully considering all options and planning to surprise us with something even better in the future.

In the meantime, we can still enjoy playing as our favorite Nintendo characters in the ‘Super Smash Bros.’ video game series. The latest installment, ‘Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’, has been a massive success, with over 25 million copies sold worldwide. It’s safe to say that the game will continue to keep us entertained for a long time.

So, while we might not get a ‘Super Smash Bros.’ movie anytime soon, let’s focus on the positive side. Nintendo is putting their characters first and making sure that any future adaptations are done with the utmost care and creativity. And that is something we should all appreciate and support as fans.

In conclusion, while it’s disappointing to hear that there won’t be a ‘Super Smash Bros.’ movie in the near future, we can rest assured that Nintendo has their reasons for it. As fans, let’s continue to support and trust the decisions of the company that has given us so many wonderful memories and characters over the years. Who knows, maybe one day our dream of a ‘Super Smash Bros.’ movie will become a reality, and it will be worth the wait.
