Kim Mulkey Shares Key Roster Update As LSU Navigates Transfer Portal After Season Exit

The LSU Tigers’ Elite Eight loss to the Michigan Wolverines may still sting for fans and players alike, but for head coach Kim Mulkey, the focus is already shifting towards the future. With the NCAA transfer portal looming over Baton Rouge, Mulkey is determined to make the most of the situation and build a strong team for the upcoming season.

After a successful run in the NCAA tournament, the LSU Tigers were eliminated in a heartbreaking loss to the Michigan Wolverines. The team fought hard and showed great determination, but ultimately fell short in their quest for a Final Four appearance. As the players and fans come to terms with the loss, coach Mulkey is already looking ahead and planning for the future.

One of the biggest challenges facing the LSU Tigers this offseason is the NCAA transfer portal. With the new rules allowing players to transfer without sitting out a year, the portal has become a hot topic in college basketball. And LSU is not immune to its effects. Several players have already entered the portal, leaving the team with some key gaps to fill.

But coach Mulkey is not one to shy away from a challenge. In fact, she sees this as an opportunity to strengthen the team and bring in new talent. In a recent interview, Mulkey shared her thoughts on the transfer portal and her plans for the team.

“We have some players who have entered the portal, and we wish them all the best. But at the same time, we are actively looking for players who can come in and make an immediate impact on our team,” said Mulkey.

One of the key players who has entered the portal is junior guard Jalen Cook. Cook was a key contributor for the Tigers this season, averaging 12.1 points per game. His departure leaves a void in the team’s backcourt, but Mulkey is confident that they will find a suitable replacement.

“We are looking for players who fit our system and can help us win games. We have a great program here at LSU, and we are confident that we will attract top talent to fill the gaps in our roster,” Mulkey added.

But it’s not just about filling the gaps. Mulkey is also focused on retaining the core players who helped the team reach the Elite Eight. One of those players is freshman guard Cameron Thomas, who led the team in scoring with an average of 23 points per game.

“Cameron is a special player, and we are doing everything we can to keep him here at LSU. He has a bright future ahead of him, and we want him to continue to develop and grow with our team,” said Mulkey.

In addition to Thomas, the Tigers also have a strong group of returning players, including junior forward Darius Days and sophomore guard Javonte Smart. With these key players leading the way, coach Mulkey is confident that the team will continue to compete at a high level.

But it’s not just about the players on the court. Mulkey also emphasized the importance of team chemistry and the role it plays in a successful season.

“We have a great group of players who get along well and have a strong bond. That’s something we will continue to build on as we bring in new players. Chemistry is crucial in a team’s success, and we will make sure that our team is united and focused on our goals,” Mulkey stated.

As the LSU Tigers navigate the transfer portal and prepare for the upcoming season, coach Mulkey remains optimistic and determined to build a strong team. Her passion and dedication to the program are evident, and it’s clear that she will stop at nothing to bring success to LSU.

The Elite Eight loss may still sting, but with coach Mulkey at the helm, the future looks bright for the LSU Tigers. Fans can rest assured that the team is in good hands, and coach Mulkey will do everything in her power to bring a championship to Baton Rouge. So let’s stay positive and support our team as they gear up for another exciting season. Geaux Tigers!
