Iowa State University’s men’s basketball team recently faced a disappointing defeat in the first round of March Madness against Syracuse. As the Cyclones tried to dust themselves off from this defeat, they were hit with another blow. Nine players from the current squad, including their star player Audi Crooks, have entered the transfer portal.

This news has left fans and the team’s head coach, Bill Fennelly, in shock. The team’s performance in the recent season was already dismal, and now with the departure of key players, the future of Iowa State’s basketball program seems uncertain.

But amidst all the chaos and disappointment, Coach Fennelly has finally broken his silence and addressed the situation. In a recent interview, he expressed his thoughts on the team’s current state and the players’ transfer decisions.

Firstly, Coach Fennelly acknowledged the fact that this has been a tough season for the Cyclones. He mentioned the challenges the team faced due to the ongoing pandemic, which affected their training and game schedules. Despite all the obstacles, the team showed resilience and fought hard in every game.

However, Coach Fennelly also admitted that the team’s performance was not up to the mark. He took full responsibility for the team’s shortcomings and assured that they will work harder to improve in the upcoming season.

Moving on to the players’ transfers, Coach Fennelly stated that it was not a decision taken lightly. He understands that every player has their own aspirations and goals, and he respects their choices. He also mentioned that he has had individual conversations with each player and their families to understand their reasons for transferring.

Among the players who have entered the transfer portal, Audi Crooks and Addy Brown stand out. Crooks, who was the team’s leading scorer, and Brown, a key player off the bench, have been an integral part of Iowa State’s basketball program. Losing them will undoubtedly be a blow to the team.

However, Coach Fennelly expressed his gratitude towards Crooks and Brown for their contributions to the team. He also wished them the best for their future and assured that they will always be a part of the Cyclone family.

As for the remaining players who have entered the transfer portal, Coach Fennelly believes that it is an opportunity for them to find a better fit and reach their full potential. He also mentioned that the team is actively looking for new recruits to fill in the gaps and strengthen their roster.

Despite the uncertainties and challenges, Coach Fennelly remains positive and determined to make the best out of the situation. He emphasized the importance of staying united and moving forward as a team.

He also urged the fans to continue supporting the team and have faith in their abilities. He reassured them that the Cyclones will bounce back stronger and give their all in the upcoming season.

In conclusion, Coach Fennelly’s words of encouragement and positivity have given a glimmer of hope to the Iowa State basketball community. While the loss of key players is undoubtedly a setback, it also presents an opportunity for the remaining players to step up and prove themselves.

The Cyclones may have faced a first-round defeat in March Madness, but they are not letting it overshadow their determination and resilience. With Coach Fennelly at the helm, the team is ready to face any challenges that come their way and come out stronger than ever.

So let us stand by the Cyclones and show our support as they gear up for the upcoming season. After all, as Coach Fennelly said, “Once a Cyclone, always a Cyclone.”
