On June 7, 2024, a ceremony took place in the province of Huíla, specifically in Lubango, to officially hand over the certificate for the de-mined area along the 400 KV electricity transmission line between Huambo and Lubango.
The event was attended by key figures, including the Minister of Energy and Water, João Baptista Borges, the Minister of National Defense, Former Combatants, and Veterans of the Homeland, João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade, the Secretary of State for Energy, Arlindo Carlos, the Vice-Governors of Huíla and Huambo, the representative of the African Development Bank for Angola and São Tomé, along with various officials from both ministries and other invited guests.
Following the handover of the certificate, Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade expressed his appreciation to the Ministry of Energy and Water for their efforts in making the occasion possible, and shared his thoughts on the broader significance of the event.
Minister João Baptista Borges then took the floor, acknowledging the contributions of Minister João Ernesto dos Santos Liberdade, which were key to the ceremony’s success. He underscored the vital importance of de-mining in advancing the project.
He went on to stress that the primary goal is to enhance energy capacity to meet the needs of the region. The Minister praised the de-mining efforts, highlighting their crucial role in ensuring the success of various electrification projects across the country.
Additionally, João Baptista Borges noted that the project connecting Huambo to Lubango would create numerous jobs for young people, a point he deemed highly significant.
A symbolic presentation of a vehicle to the de-mining team on-site was also part of the event.
It is noteworthy that the construction of the 400 kV electricity transmission line between Huambo and Lubango will be executed in two sections, covering a total of 343 km.
