3 players who could still make it to India’s Champions Trophy Squad

Reading Time: 3 mins read

As the ICC Champions Trophy approaches, cricket fans around the world eagerly await the action-packed tournament. India, being one of the top contenders for the trophy, has recently announced their squad for the upcoming tournament. However, there is always room for debate and speculation when it comes to the selection of a national team. With that being said, the question arises, can India still make some changes to their squad? And if yes, who could still make it to India’s squad? Let’s take a closer look.

The 15-member Indian squad for the Champions Trophy has been announced, leaving out some notable names that have been performing well in recent times. While the selected squad is undoubtedly strong and balanced, there are a few players who could have been given a chance to prove their worth in the international arena. However, there is still a possibility for changes to be made, as the ICC allows teams to make changes to their squad until May 24, a week before the start of the tournament. With that in mind, here are three players who could still make it to India’s Champions Trophy squad.

1. Ambati Rayudu
The dynamic right-handed batsman has been on the sidelines of the Indian team for quite some time now. Rayudu, who has been a consistent performer for the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has been knocking on the doors of the national team with his impressive performances in domestic cricket. He was also a part of India’s limited-overs squad for the tour of Zimbabwe in 2015, where he scored a century in the first ODI. However, he was unable to capitalize on that opportunity and was dropped from the team soon after. Since then, Rayudu has continued to impress in the IPL and domestic circuit, and with his ability to anchor an innings and score quickly, he could be a valuable addition to India’s middle-order for the Champions Trophy.

2. Kuldeep Yadav
The young left-arm wrist spinner has been making waves in the Indian cricket scene with his impressive performances in the IPL and domestic cricket. Despite being only 22 years old, Kuldeep has shown remarkable maturity and control in his bowling, which has earned him a spot in India’s T20I and ODI squads in the past. However, he is yet to make his mark in the international arena, and the Champions Trophy could be the perfect platform for him to do so. With Ravindra Jadeja being the only specialist spinner in India’s squad, Kuldeep’s inclusion could provide the team with an extra spin option and add a new dimension to their bowling attack.

3. Rohit Sharma
Yes, you read that right. The vice-captain of India’s limited-overs team has been left out of the squad for the Champions Trophy due to a hamstring injury. However, with the final decision on his fitness set to be taken on May 22, there is still a chance for him to make it to the squad. Rohit has been a vital part of India’s ODI and T20I teams, and his experience and big-hitting abilities could be crucial in the pressure-cooker situations of the Champions Trophy. Moreover, his record in ICC tournaments is nothing short of impressive, with two centuries and two fifties in just nine matches. If he is deemed fit, there is no doubt that Rohit will be a valuable addition to India’s squad.

In conclusion, while India’s squad for the Champions Trophy is strong and well-balanced, there are still a few players who could make it to the squad and add depth to the team. With the deadline for changes approaching, it will be interesting to see if the Indian selectors make any alterations to the squad. As a cricket fan, all we can hope for is a strong and competitive Indian team that can bring home the Champions Trophy for the third time.
