Lydia was born on December 12, 1950, in the small town of San Sebastián, Puerto Rico. From a young age, she had a deep passion for helping others, and this led her to pursue a career in nursing. She worked tirelessly as a nurse for over 40 years, dedicating her life to caring for the sick and vulnerable. Her patients were not just patients, but they were family to her. She treated each one with the utmost care and compassion, going above and beyond to ensure their comfort and well-being.
In 1972, Lydia met the love of her life, Antonio La Polla, and they were married six months later. Together, they built a beautiful life and raised three children – Maria, Juan, and Alejandra. Lydia was a devoted wife and mother, always putting her family’s needs before her own. She was the heart and soul of their home, and her love and warmth created a loving and nurturing environment for her family.
Outside of work and family, Lydia was actively involved in her community. She volunteered at local charities, organizing fundraisers and events to help those in need. She was a kind and generous soul, always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. Her selflessness and generosity knew no bounds, and she touched the lives of many through her acts of kindness.
Lydia’s passing has left a void not only in her family but also in the hospital where she worked. Her colleagues remember her as a dedicated and hardworking nurse, always willing to go the extra mile for her patients. She was a mentor to many and had a positive impact on everyone she worked with. Her loss is deeply felt by the entire hospital community, and her memory will forever be cherished.
Maria, Lydia’s eldest daughter, fondly remembers her mother’s unwavering love and support. “My mother was my best friend and my biggest cheerleader. She always encouraged me to follow my dreams and never gave up on me. I am grateful for every moment I had with her and will always cherish the memories we shared,” Maria said.

The funeral service for Lydia La Polla will be held at San Sebastián Catholic Church on Saturday, March 29, at 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the charity of your choice in Lydia’s memory.
