CGIAR and KALRO Join Forces for CGIAR Science Week: Advancing Sustainable Food Systems

In today’s world, where the effects of climate change are becoming increasingly evident, the need for sustainable food systems is more pressing than ever. In order to address this urgent issue, CGIAR and the Kenyan Agricultural and Livestock Research Organization (KALRO) are coming together to host the first ever CGIAR Science Week. This gathering will bring together the world’s leading scientists and decision-makers in agriculture, climate, and health, to advance research and innovation, inspire action, and establish critical partnerships that can secure investment in sustainable food systems.

CGIAR, or Consultative Group on International Agricultural Research, is a global partnership of 15 research centers and thousands of partners working towards a food-secure future. Their research focuses on improving agriculture, livelihoods, and the environment, with the goal of reducing poverty, improving food and nutrition security, and sustaining natural resources. KALRO, on the other hand, is a leading agricultural research institution in Kenya, dedicated to generating and promoting knowledge, technologies, and innovations that address the country’s agricultural challenges.

The first CGIAR Science Week, to be held from 12th to 17th July 2021, will be a landmark event that will bring together experts from various fields to share knowledge, ideas, and experiences. The theme for this year’s Science Week is “Advancing Sustainable Food Systems: Innovation and Partnerships for Impact.” This theme highlights the need for innovative solutions and partnerships to achieve sustainable food systems, which are essential for the well-being of both people and the planet.

One of the main objectives of the CGIAR Science Week is to advance research and innovation in the field of agriculture. With the participation of top scientists and researchers, the event will provide a platform for the exchange of ideas and the sharing of cutting-edge research. This will not only foster collaboration but also accelerate the development of innovative solutions to address the challenges facing the agriculture sector.

Moreover, the CGIAR Science Week will serve as a source of inspiration for action. By bringing together key decision-makers, the event aims to spark discussions and debates on how to translate research findings into concrete actions. This will be crucial in driving the implementation of sustainable food systems on a global scale. It is only through collective action that we can truly make a difference and create a more sustainable future for generations to come.

In addition to research and action, the CGIAR Science Week will also focus on establishing critical partnerships. The event will provide a unique opportunity for participants to network and forge partnerships with like-minded individuals and organizations. These partnerships will be crucial in securing investments for sustainable food systems and driving the necessary changes.

The CGIAR Science Week will also showcase the important role that agriculture plays in addressing issues beyond food production. With the theme of “Advancing Sustainable Food Systems,” the event will highlight the linkages between agriculture, climate, and health. It will also shed light on the potential of sustainable agriculture to mitigate the effects of climate change and improve the health and well-being of communities.

As the world continues to grapple with the COVID-19 pandemic, the CGIAR Science Week will also explore the impact of the pandemic on food systems and how to build back better. The event will provide a platform to discuss the challenges faced by the agriculture sector during the pandemic and explore ways to build more resilient and sustainable food systems.

In conclusion, the CGIAR Science Week is a crucial event that brings together key stakeholders to advance sustainable food systems. With the participation of leading scientists and decision-makers, the event will provide a platform to share knowledge, inspire action, and establish critical partnerships. It is only through such collaborations that we can achieve a food-secure future for all. Let us join hands and work towards creating a more sustainable and resilient world for generations to come.
