Merab Dvalishvili Recounts Almost Beating Up His First American Coach

Merab Dvalishvili, a Georgian-born fighter, recently expressed his desire to fight on the White House card and make a mark as an American citizen. He proudly declared, “I’m the only champion who is an American citizen right now. I’m not American, but at least I am an American citizen.” However, his journey to this point has not been without its fair share of struggles.

Dvalishvili, who is the current bantamweight champion in Cage Fury Fighting Championships (CFFC), moved to the United States in 2014 to pursue his dream of becoming a professional fighter. Despite being a skilled athlete, he faced many challenges as a non-American on US soil. In an interview with EssentiallySports, he opened up about the first incident that made him realize the difficulties he would face as a foreigner in the world of mixed martial arts (MMA).

Dvalishvili recalled an incident from his early days as a fighter in the United States, where he almost got into a physical altercation with his first American coach. He shared, “It was just my third day in the US, and I was trying to impress my coach. I went for a single-leg takedown, and he shoved me off. I got so angry that I almost punched him!” This outburst was not due to any bad blood between the two, but rather Dvalishvili’s frustration at not being able to communicate effectively in English.

The language barrier was a significant hurdle for Dvalishvili, who had limited knowledge of English when he moved to the United States. He had always dreamed of training and fighting in the US, but he was unprepared for the challenges that came with it. He found it challenging to communicate with his teammates and coaches, and this often led to misunderstandings and conflicts.

Despite the initial struggles, Dvalishvili persevered and continued to work hard to improve his language skills. He trained relentlessly, honing his skills and learning the nuances of the sport. He also found ways to communicate and connect with his teammates, even if it meant using Google Translate or hand gestures. Dvalishvili’s dedication and determination paid off when he won his first fight in the US by knockout in 2015, marking the beginning of his successful career as a professional fighter.

Over the years, Dvalishvili has made remarkable progress in his journey as an MMA fighter in the US. He has an impressive record of 13 wins and four losses, with six of those wins coming under the CFFC banner. The bantamweight champion has also caught the attention of the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC), the premier MMA organization in the world, and is on the cusp of making his debut in the promotion.

Dvalishvili’s hard work and dedication to his craft have earned him the respect and admiration of his peers and fans alike. He is known for his intense training, incredible endurance, and explosive style inside the cage. He has also received immense support from his adopted country, with many fans and fellow fighters rooting for him to succeed.

Despite his success in the US, Dvalishvili remains humble and grateful for the opportunities he has received. He is proud to represent his home country of Georgia and equally proud to be an American citizen. He believes that his dual citizenship gives him a unique identity and sets him apart from other fighters.

In conclusion, Merab Dvalishvili’s journey to becoming an American citizen and a successful MMA fighter has been filled with challenges and obstacles. However, his determination and passion for the sport have helped him overcome these hurdles and emerge as a champion. As he continues to make his mark in the world of MMA, Dvalishvili serves as an inspiration to aspiring fighters, proving that with hard work and perseverance, anything is possible.
